Abstract

This study aims at investigating and comparing the effect of ICT on science performance in TIMSS 2007 between Korea and the USA using the hierarchical linear modeling. The results are: First, the between-school performance variance that accounted for the ICT variables at school level is larger in Korea than the USA. According to the total variance explained by the ICT variables, the impact of ICT on science performance is larger in the USA than that of Korea. Second, when the students had access to more computers and internet connections, they achieved higher science performance levels in Korea. However, the computer use in class had statistically negative effects on science performance in the USA.
