Indigenous Education as Cultural Confluence: El Colegio de Santa Cruz de Tlaltelolco

Abstract

This paper will examine the Cologio de Santa Cruz de Tlaltelolco, the first European-origin College for Indigenous students in the Americas as an example of cultural confluence in education. One such example of a highly popular modern religious icon that was born of the confluence of Indigenous and European world views was Virgen of Guadalupe/Tonantzin who first appeared in the "Nican Mophua," written by Indigenous students in the Colegio de Santa Cruz de Tlaltelolco in the mid 16th century.
