Abstract

Research indicates that a gender gap continues to exist. How can we understand the processes at work that perpetuate and broaden this gap?
The purpose of the proposed paper is to contribute to efforts that address this important question. Our focus is to examine what competence in graduate mathematics entails in comparison to undergraduate math and mathematics in K-12 education. In addition, we document the extent to which students' identify with and how they view the discipline of mathematics.
