Abstract

Dunn (1968) warned the field of special education of adverse educational practices; prior to the conception of the Education All Handicapped Children Act of 1975. The insight generated from Dunn's work provides the framework of the literature for thesis research. Outcomes suggest the field had been warned of many current conditions affecting African American adolescent males. However, the overrepresentation phenomenon persists in spite of the knowledge housed in the literature. Educators could benefit from the knowledge revealed from conversations with African American male participants on realistic methods of de-inventing special education as it effects their efficacious development and their social interaction and trust of and with educators.
