Abstract

The study examines the development of multimodal educational material by elementary teachers through which two literacies are integrated: linguistics and digital. The Multimedia Builder (MMB) educational software is used to develop the educational material aiming to integrate the two literacies and achieve the concept of “multiliteracies”. A case study approach was employed, collecting quantitative but mainly qualitative data through questionnaires, and data discourse analysis. Three elementary teachers and 80 students participated in the study that took place in Spring 2010. The results revealed that even though teachers managed to develop multimodal educational material integrating the two literacies, they did not request from their students to do the same. The study discusses the implications for educational systems and educators.
