Abstract

I plan to construct and validate a scale to assess gendered racial microaggressions for Black women (i.e., negative and derogatory slights and insults based on the intersection of one’s race and gender) based on Sue and colleagues (2007) model of microaggressions. Using online survey methodology, I will conduct a four-phase study: Phase I (i.e., scale construction); Phase II (i.e., initial validation to assess factor structure of scale, N = 300); Phase III (i.e., further validation to assess construct validity, N = 300); Phase IV (i.e., 2-week test-retest reliability estimates). For the purposes of this paper, I will present data from Phase I and II of the study. This scale is expected to be a multidimensional measure of gendered racial microaggressions.
