Abstract

Using case study research of educational reform in New Orleans to enrich discussion, Kristen Buras (2011, 2012, forthcoming) shares findings culled from interviews with veteran educators, grassroots education activists, and leaders from a host of education reform organizations, participant-observation in public school forums, and review of policy documents. Critical analyses of the negative racial and economic effects of the portfolio model are to be charted, alongside the wider policy network that has enabled swift takeover of public schools by education entrepreneurs.
