Troubleshooting a Scripting Error: Connections of Scripted Curricula to Scripted Bodies

Abstract

Scripted curricula have become more represented within the elementary school system, especially among schools that qualify for Title I assistance. However, this presentation seeks to broaden and challenge the assumptions of what a scripted curriculum is by considering the relationship of scripting the body through consistent repetition and rhythm while considering the impact of discipline. This paper considers the relationship of the Sophist’s training methods in ancient Greece to the ideas found within Foucault’s Discipline and Punish to broaden the concepts of scripting within education by considering evidence found within a kindergarten mathematics classroom. This presentation will consider how the body is scripted during the mathematical learning and during other aspects of the class.
