Abstract

The theme of this year’s AERA conference emphasizes that ‘to know is not enough’. This paper takes up the idea that what we know (about) and how we know students and their families is nevertheless central to the ways we act in our classrooms and schools. The paper describes the ways key tenets of Disability Studies in Education have been used to inform the development of two national resources - tools for curriculum assessment and Individual Education Plans. The paper also illustrates how DSE tenets provide a useful framework for monitoring the dissemination and implementation of these same resources.
