Abstract

National Assessment of Educational Progress adopts item mapping to provide meaningful information about what students know and can do in subjects. It is important for the policy-makers to know how reliable the item maps are before they make any serious decisions. No precision statistics of item mapping are currently reported. The purpose of this study is to illustrate two methods of estimating standard errors for item maps: asymptotic standard errors for item maps using the delta method, and grouped jackknife re-sampling standard errors. Asymptotic standard errors for item maps were derived using delta method, and both asymptotic and grouped jackknife methods will be applied to a real data application using NAEP data.
