Abstract

The main challenge for Web-based surveys is to obtain high response rates, which is critical to the generalizability of survey results. This study will reexamine the effects of factors associated with response rates that were identified in the previous meta-analyses. Two additional factors, domain of research and survey platform, will also be investigated. More sophisticated linear models with the consideration of possible interactions among factors will be adopted to sort out the relationship between factors and the response rates. The findings from this study will provide updated and concrete guidelines for researchers to follow to increase the response rates and improve the quality of the studies when using Web-based surveys.
