Fri, April 13, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 1

Abstract

Common Core State Standards and the 21st Century skills movement have led to a desire to expand assessment to new areas that are difficult to measure through traditional large-scale assessment methods. This study targets the assessment of collaboration and, more specifically, collaborative problem solving using an interactive game-like environment. The results of the prototyping effort, the cognitive lab, and subsequent analysis suggest that the performance task delivered in this environment were successful in assessing students’ collaborative and problem-solving (CPS) skills. The task encouraged students to collaborate around a central problem and produced diverse types of evidence of CPS skills.
