Preservice Teachers’ Conception and Potential Usage of Internet-Based Resources in Planning and Teaching Mathematics

Abstract

Although a variety of websites designed to enhance mathematics instruction are available and are encouraged to incorporate in planning and teaching mathematics, little research exists on the nature of preservice teachers’ conceptions on the quality websites and their potential usage in planning and teaching mathematics. This study investigated seventy-six preservice teachers’ conception of the quality of websites and their intended usage in planning and teaching mathematics. This study also explored preservice teachers’ challenges when integrating the internet-based resources. Analysis results revealed 7 aspects of quality determinants of websites based on preservice teachers’ responses. Four themes of challenges were identified from preservice teachers’ statements. Implications for teacher educators and future research are discussed in accordance with the findings.
