Peace Education in a Multicultural Perspective: Illustrating Possibilities in a Higher Education Institution

Abstract

The present paper argues that peace education in a multicultural perspective could help imbue Higher Education curriculum development for peace. It contends that dimension should not be limited to a separate discipline in the way of an add-on to curriculum, but rather be part of the syllabuses not only in human and social sciences but also in the so-called “hard sciences” linked to technological areas. It firstly discusses a theoretical framework for the linkage between peace education studies and multiculturalism. It then delves on two case studies in which higher education curriculum was imbued with that perspective. It highlights potentials of that approach for higher education concerned with the preparation of peace educators in a multicultural and conflict-ridden world.
