Mon, April 16, 8:15 to 9:45am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom A

Abstract

Four immigrant children, ages 7 to 9, from families that used Korean as well as English in the home were observed as they engaged in a variety of literacy activities, making use of both of their languages as resource in their interactions with friends and family members. Although there was a wide variety in the literacy tools observed for every child, this report is particularly focused on the children’s adoption of new technologies in home literacy activities, and on how the children’s experiences were comprised of affordances from tools, languages, and the significant others in the context.
