The purpose of this qualitative study is to identify characteristics of MA action research project that promotes and prevents inservice teachers to become a teacher researcher. This study also aims to seek better ways for teacher educators to design and executing MA action research projects to support inservice teachers in becoming teacher researchers. This study examined four inservice teachers’ action research experiences before, during and after MA program through semi-structured interviews, follow-up interviews, and e-mail messages. We also analyzed the participants’ final MA action research papers to explore quality of research that informs teacher educators to improve action research project. This study helps us clarify issues and potentials of action research as MA capstone projects and professional development tools.
