Possibilities of Inquiry Learning for Students With Intellectual Disabilities?

Abstract

This paper explores how inquiry learning is used for intellectually disabled (ID) students in a special education setting. It is based on the findings of a current project that aimed at developing an adapted curriculum of General Studies, an interdisciplinary subject at primary level, for ID students in special education setting in Hong Kong. In this first phrase of project, 6 teachers who implemented the adapted curriculum employed inquiry learning approach in their trial lessons which is analysed to explore how inquiry learning was used for ID students in a special education setting. The initial analysis of the 6 lessons showed that using inquiry learning approach for ID students was positive although needs for modifications on the application were identified.
