Abstract

There is a great need to question, trouble, and create tension with the current authoritative discourses that dramatically shape the cultural and social landscapes of youth whose lives were constructed through long-term childhood violence. This critical ethnography explores how social workers solidify and redeploy authoritative discourses and ideologies across social work contexts in relation to working with survivors of long-term childhood trauma. The intent of this project is influence and change the current deficit discourse and the mostly destructive practices in educating youth with childhood traumatic histories in our the K-12 public school systems.
