Mon, April 16, 8:15 to 9:45am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom C

Abstract

This study considers the processes and implications of youth media production and the ramifications of interventionist pedagogies that engage students using alternative media based formats. Such formats include youth-authored films and short-form media that narrate their various experiences as queer and allied youth. The focus of this study is a critical examination of the pedagogies developed by the Out in Schools Program, and the youth-authored films produced as part of their outreach initiatives. This AERA presentation will weave clips from youth produced film created with OIS and/or presented in their facilitations with youth and researcher analyses of anti homophobia and anti-heternormative pedagogies and filmmaking.
