This study intends to examine the game design features and development processes that enable an intrinsic integration of gameplay and content and hence promote successful game-based content learning for diverse middle graders. Particularly, the study addresses the key question: (1) What are the cumulative findings on effective and efficient educational game design and development, (2) What are potential design propositions and factors that will weight in an effective application of the interdisciplinary approach to educational game design propositions? This project adopts a multi-dimensional data collection approach that comprises data from three resources: literature review, artifact analysis of exemplary game products, and empirical case study of diverse learners’ game-based learning experiences.
