Abstract

The development of innovative educational technologies takes place in conceptual spaces of particular complexity. Successful educational tools that take advantage of new available technologies tend to develop through processes that integrate well the perspectives of learners, educators, researches and technology experts. This presentation explores the dynamics of these processes with a special emphasis on the role of design practices as method for collaboration across disciplines and innovation. The first part of the presentation discusses the EdLab approach to design, development and research developed at EdLab, Teachers College, Columbia University. The second part considers the case of the implementation of this approach in the design and development of an online video discussion tool, Vialogues.
