Sat, April 14, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom C

Abstract

We analyzed the way six teachers from two public and two private Mexican secondary schools were implementing the new programs on Civic and Ethical Education. We also evaluated their authority role, social climate and degree of success in attaining the programs’ goals.

Data about teachers´ educational practices were collected through semi-structured interviews, classrooms observation, as well as through video registers of students-teachers’ interaction.

Analysis of data revealed that professional and moral authority types (Pace & Hemmings, 2007), and affective teaching styles (Rompelmann, 2002), prevailed in classrooms where students's academic performance was higher.
