Design Research Implementing Multimodal Curriculum Into Schools: Dynamic Representation, Connectivity, and Haptics

Abstract

The SimCalc program of research has emphasized school-based design research, aimed at understanding how new capabilities of technology can be integrated into teaching and learning practices in mathematics classrooms. We will talk about what goes into design research to effectively implement technology-enhanced curriculum in schools and what types of design principles should researchers and developers be aware of. Examples will be presented from the SimCalc program of research and recent work in using haptic devices with young children.
