This presentation uses qualitative interviews of higher education faculty and P-12 school principals to interrogate ways to break down the “us versus them” divide in collaborations with urban schools. This research questions the ways that “diverse” P-12 schools become means for higher education institutional needs, reifying the center/margin divide. Some P-12 schools find they are exploited through educational research and practice, such as through accreditation practices, research findings, or lack of reciprocal benefits.
