The Adaptation of Schools to Ethno-Cultural Diversity in Québec, Catalonia, and Flanders: Common and Specific Challenges

Fri, April 13, 12:00 to 2:00pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, West Room 217&218

Abstract

Panelists will demonstrate, through their comparative studies, what can be learned internationally from the study of education in Canada. In particular, panelists focus on research on internationalization in higher education, educational policy reform, Aboriginal and minority group education, and curriculum. Given that there is not one Canadian education system, comparisons will be drawn out between different Canadian provinces and regions (e.g. French Canada, Western Canada). Panelists review the challenges and opportunities Canadians face in attempting to create education systems that are equitable and sustainable, and that support the development of students as engaged global citizens. Attention will also be paid to differing impacts of neo-liberal globalization on educational reforms across Canada.
