Session Submission Type: Symposium
The objective of the symposium is to highlight the question of education as a communicative and moral arena for citizenship education in a cosmopolitan perspective, and to elucidate and problematize its consequences. In what ways can the relation between cosmopolitanism, communication and citizenship education be understood? In what ways can public education become an arena for communicative encounters between different outlooks on the world?
The specific approach in this symposium is to relate sociological and philosophical perspectives on cosmopolitanism to theoretical concepts on communication and deliberation; and to study the effect and impact of such relations regarding our understanding the conditions for communication in an increasingly interconnected world, and its consequences for citizenship education in public education.
