Session Submission Summary

Contemporary Preparation Program Initiatives: Lessons Learned From School Leadership Programs

Mon, April 16, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom C

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

This workshop session will feature lessons learned about the successful implementation of leadership program preparation and development programs that are grant-funded by the United States Department of Education through the School Leadership Program. Participants representing three universities will highlight one or more evidence-based practices that have been identified in the literature and detail how the program implemented the practice(s). These practices are evidence-based and identified in this session as professional research strands. It is clear from the literature what should be done to prepare aspiring and current leaders (i.e. mentoring, in-depth internships/field-based projects, program evaluations etc) but what is not clear is how to do this. This session will provide opportunity for participants representing three universities to engage in discourse focused on the how around real-life experiences in the implementation of these practices (including successes and challenges, etc.).
