Session Submission Type: Demonstration/Performance
The purpose of this innovative session is to demonstrate and explore the role of dialogues in addressing challenging and politically charged situations. We will present vignettes of situations drawn from our research with school leaders as a way of exploring the role of dialogue in helping leaders to address complex situations through courageous and sometimes difficult conversations. These vignettes, which involve assumptions about race, religion, and discrimination, raise further questions that require principals to not only engage their intellectual knowledge of educational research, but to act on that knowledge to ensure the provision of safe, inclusive, and socially just learning environments for all children.
