Mobilizing Teachers’ Research Knowledge: School Improvement in Leeds, United Kingdom

Tue, April 17, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, West Room 221

Session Submission Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium brings together a team of teacher researchers and academic partners to deliberate on a two-year pilot study in the flagship high school in a network of schools serving disadvantaged inner-city communities in Leeds UK. The three papers reflect on a long-term sustained program of CPD devoted to developing and mobilizing teachers’ research knowledge; a sample of teacher action inquiries, including processes and findings, which are integral to knowledge generation; and contextualized school improvement, with commentary on its potential in this school and other networks of schools across the city. The ‘Leading Learning’ project is led by Leeds Metropolitan University and formally recognized in the City’s School Improvement Plan.
