Wisdom, Spirituality, and Culture in Adult and Higher Education

Abstract

Given that the theme of this conference is “non satis scire to know is not enough,” it is important to consider the role of wisdom in education. As such, the purpose of this workshop is to explore what it means for teachers and counselors who work with adult learners to educate for wisdom. In particular, the session will: a) engage participants in exercises on the meaning of wisdom from a cross-cultural perspective; b) report on the findings of a longitudinal study on the spiritual development and understanding of wisdom of a multicultural group of adult educators over a 10 year period; and c) offer specific guidelines for educational and counseling practice that aim to facilitate the development of wisdom.
