Abstract

Building capacity among educators requires knowledge of research but equally important is the transforming this research into practice. This symposium presents findings from studies that employed collaborative learning communities as the vehicle for improving instructional and research capacity in a range of subject areas. Central to the studies were the use of job-embedded and research-informed professional learning for experienced teachers. The studies will present findings from these four studies, used mixed methods, including: 1) fostering teachers’ engagement in research and its application in the classroom; 2) developing teachers’ sense of efficacy; 3) developing effective embedded professional learning practices for teachers’ continuous growth and development.
