The Edge of Race: Critical Examinations of Education and Race/Racism

Abstract
This symposium brings together leading scholars in studies of education and race, to explore two key questions: 1) how do contemporary understandings of race and racism allow for identifying and understanding racial injustice?; and, 2) what can be done to interrupt and change these injustices in educational contexts? The phrase ‘the edge of race’ indicates that race is increasingly on the periphery of education policy, and that educational research continues to be a contested site in which and from which to study race and education. In this symposium, participants will use a variety of critical frameworks to examine the policies, politics, process and practices associated with race/ racism and education.
