Session Submission Type: Symposium
The aim of this symposium is to illustrate, through five papers and a discussant, how we have come to understand mentoring as pedagogy. We argue that a practice of encounter is a space for dialogue, negotiation and mediation by turning a cross-cultural, feminist gaze to our multi-layered discourse. We express women’s ways of mentoring in the academy as (1) a professional learning practice and (2) a form of sociality (Ahmed 2000) through our encounters with each other; encounters which have been prefigured through personal and professional pathways. These moments and types of contact have worked to shape a specific practice of a collaborative methodology in which we conceptualise professional research practices as a pedagogy of mentorship
