Ensuring Quality in Mixed-Methods Research in Higher Education: From Theory to Praxis

Abstract

Teddlie and Tashakkori (2009) have noted that despite increasing utilization of mixed methods research, there is a limited amount of systematic literature available to researchers on the topics of quality criteria and transferability of inferences in such research. In this backdrop and in the absence of a specific type of empirical application, the objective of this session is twofold: first, to provide theoretical approaches concerning quality in Mixed Methods studies, and second, to provide real-life applications of quality criteria implemented in the context of three empirical studies conducted in the area of higher education. This session contributes to the growing body of mixed methods research because it expands the conversation concerning the application of methodological steps accompanied by quality criteria.
