Improving Materials Development With Shareable Instructional Objects: Demonstration and Discussion

Abstract

Sharable instructional objects are widely used in training but less often in education. Over six million such objects are available on the Internet as a key part of the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative and 75% of these are equally applicable to education and training. This session’s purpose is to describe, demonstrate, and discuss such objects, show their advantages in facilitating development of instructional materials, and stimulate educators to use existing objects directly relevant to common core standards. Research is needed to further develop these objects, make them more readily accessible to classroom teachers, and to use data stored on ADL objects for tailoring instruction to students.
