How Leadership Contributes to the Quality of Professional Life for Teachers: Team, School, and District-Level Perspectives

Tue, April 17, 8:15 to 9:45am, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: First Level, East Ballroom A

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session

Abstract

This symposium examines the quality of professional life of teachers from three different vantage points: 1) at the team level with teachers and administrators part of a newly formed collaborative work group, 2)at the school level, with data from site teachers, and 3) at the district level with Human Resource interviews of 2nd and 3rd year teachers deciding to stay or exit. All three studies answer questions concerning the quality of professional life for teachers. The final paper in the symposium suggests that all three studies are informed by learner-centered leadership, and that the quality of professional life for teachers is shaped through democratic deliberation.
