Mental Health in Young Children: Concerns and Prevention

Abstract

Mental health issues affect a significant number of young children, with clear deleterious outcome to academic achievement and overall quality of life. Topics of discussion include the development of an early screening measure of Anxiety for school professionals, the effects of parenting style and education on children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and the treatment of childhood anxiety using an evidence-based curriculum. Session attendees will gain an understanding of the role that mental health issues play in classroom performance and academic achievement. Attendees will also receive information regarding various prevention and treatment methods to address childhood mental health, and be informed as to the impact of parenting on the development of childhood mental health.
