Session Submission Type: Symposium
In recent years, high-quality OST programs have led to outcomes in social, emotional, and academic arenas now considered cornerstone to the field. Despite this fact, very few high-quality programs have been identified. Emergent evidence shows that a number of OST program approaches can effectively reduce risk & promote positive social, emotional, & academic outcomes in youth. The proposed panel will describe and explore five programs that utilize different strategies to yield reductions in maladaptive attitudes and behaviors like school dropout, aggression, and conflict while promoting protective factors like academic achievement and healthy identity development. Findings focus on youth spanning developmental stages and settings impacting elementary, middle, and high school participants in domestic and international areas.
