Session Submission Type: Symposium
This symposium is designed to showcase a variety of methodological and conceptual approaches to the study of self-regulated learning (SRL) and to facilitate discussion amongst proponents of each perspective. The five presentations will demonstrate different approaches to measuring SRL. Conceptualized as “aptitude,” focus is placed on the stability or variability of SRL across contexts. Self-regulated learning “events” are observed and measured using cognitive methodologies to trace SRL behaviors during learning. This session presents diverse research methods (questionnaires, log-files, verbal protocols and eye-tracking) and statistical analyses (SEM, meta-analysis, & cognitive modeling), with the aim of integrating methodological and theoretical approaches in order to promote more comprehensive study of self-regulated learning by finding common ground across divergent perspectives.
