Session Submission Type: Symposium
This symposium is a presentation of findings from Learning Mathematics through Representations (LMR), a multi-year design research and curriculum development project that focuses on the number line as the representational context for supporting elementary students’ understandings of integers and fractions. The symposium has five parts: Overview; Foundational Developmental Research; Curriculum Design; Experimental Study of Curriculum Effectiveness; Discussion by a scholar with expertise on the development of mathematical and scientific reasoning.
