Lone Scholar as “Not Enough”: The (Im)possibility of Authorship in Postmodern Research

Abstract

The work of an educational researcher is often thought of as individual, with researcher transformed into author to convey research results. However, the idea of authorship is problematic in postmodern research when scholars engage in writing partnerships and instead of representation, writing is action. In this interactive session, the panelists, early career scholars, demonstrate how different qualitative researchers attend to these complications rather than silencing them in the name of academic success. Specifically, they explore the possibilities and complications of using writing to create methodology in writing partnerships. The panelists are joined by an established scholar who will serve as discussant and facilitate conversation between the panel and audience about authorship.
