Keeping the Vision in Changing Times: Preparing Teachers With Commitments to Equity and Social Justice

Abstract
This symposium brings together four researcher-practitioners in teacher education to examine the continued significance of addressing equity and social justice in programs of teacher education within the contemporary political context that devalues formal teacher education, assumes colorblindness, and is premised on standardization, privatization, and free-market solutions. In order to create a space to engage with the multiple tensions and possibilities that arise when preparing teachers with commitments to equity and social justice, each panelist will draw from his or her respective area of expertise to consider the issue from a pedagogical, programmatic, moral, or policy perspective.
