Nurturing Consortia in the Maelstrom of Education Reform: Conversations With Chicago, New York City, Baltimore, and Los Angeles

Abstract

This year’s theme is using research to improve education and serve the public good and university-district consortia are a direct link to making research useful to schools and improve outcomes for all children. As decision-making becomes more decentralized, practitioners and policymakers are in greater need of increased capacity to develop effective improvement strategies. Reformers must learn from past and current initiatives, build on them, and place new evidence in the larger context of what matters. This AERA session will be an opportunity to learn about the principals of such partnerships as practiced by the Consortium on Chicago School Research (CCSR), the Research Alliance for New York Schools, the Baltimore Education Research Consortium (BERC), and the Los Angeles Research Alliance (LAERI).
