Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
In any type of study, researchers often run into unforeseen problems in collecting data from participants. These problems can particularly be an issue in studies involving historically underrepresented populations. In this symposium, we seek to discuss our experiences as qualitative researchers and the issues we encountered in conducting qualitative studies on Black students at HBCUs, Asian/American GLB students, and doctoral students of color. More specifically, we will discuss how our experiences went beyond more “traditional” methods of qualitative data collection and required intentionality specific to our populations being studied. Finally, we will conclude with a group discussion on how the lessons learned from these processes can help future qualitative researchers.
