Session Submission Summary

Community Schools: Collective Trust, Collective Action, and Collective Impact

Sat, April 14, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Vancouver Convention Centre, Floor: Second Level, East Room 17

Session Submission Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session will highlight research on community schools as the reform strategy gains visibility, funding, and policy support at the federal and local levels. Community schools integrate academic and non-academic supports for student, families, and communities through partnerships. Little has been written about community schools in the academic literature and most evaluations haven’t been publicly released. In connection to the conference theme, it is necessary to describe the strategy and disseminate evidence of implementation and effectiveness for use by policymakers and an increasing number of practitioners. Researchers will present theoretical frameworks for community schools, describe how they’re implemented in various communities, and analyze the effectiveness of national and local models.
