Session Submission Summary

A Framework to Understand the Impact of Technology on Collaborative Learning

Sat, April 14, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Sheraton Wall Centre, Floor: Third Level, North Junior Ballroom C

Session Submission Type: Symposium

Abstract

Technology plays an increasing role in education and is the venue for many collaborative learning activities. In this symposium, we explore the role that technology plays in collaborative episodes, framing our ideas in terms of technology as the mediator of these interactions. By looking at a variety of technologies we will explore the different affordances of each for collaboration, and consider frameworks within which their influence on collaboration can be incorporated into our analysis and understanding of the interactions. Understanding the implications of particular technologies on collaborative engagement and learning will support future development of these tools, so that they can be used in the most appropriate manner to promote expansive and sustainable learning.
