Mon, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Pan Pacific, Floor: Lobby Level, Oceanview 1&2

Session Submission Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

The concept of scaffolding is integral to science and technology education. As educators and researchers seek to broaden participation, the scaffolding can be designed to accommodate and support a broad range of learners, providing access to sophisticated forms of disciplinary practice. The notion of scaffolding has received attention in education not only in interactions between individuals, but has extended to artifacts, resources, and environments themselves (Puntambekar & Hübscher, 2005). In addition, scaffolding has recently being used to describe features of computer tools and the processes employing contribute to learning (Pea, 2004). This session explores a variety of efforts to refine the concept of scaffolding within and across designed and emergent educational settings. In this structured poster session, we will investigate the social and material scaffolds in formal and informal settings.
