An International Symposium on the Practice of Inclusive Education: From Teachers to Systems

Abstract

This set of papers represents second generation work from an international research group that has worked together for the last four years to take a critical look at the global movement called inclusive education through an equity prism. Despite the impressive growth of inclusive education around the world, questions and considerations about equity as it relates to inclusive education have been neglected. This symposium addresses three objectives: (a) critical understandings of inclusive education from multiple vantage points, across international borders, (b) a refined theoretical understanding of the ways in which equity is addressed in inclusive education, and (c) lessons for future inclusive education policy and research that are mindful of equity.
