Session Submission Summary

Programs of Study as Locally Adaptable High School Reforms

Sat, April 14, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Marriott Pinnacle, Floor: Third Level, Pinnacle II

Session Submission Type: Symposium

Abstract

Becoming both “College AND Career Ready” is an increasingly important yet daunting task for America’s youth. The development of Programs of Study (POS) by high schools and the community colleges they feed constitutes the most rapidly expanding response to this challenge. The five studies presented in this symposium were designed as an integrated set of analyses of POS. Supported by the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education, these studies present diverse findings, make practical educational and policy recommendations, as well as point toward needs for future research. These studies, drawing data from schools in a dozen states, point in actionable directions and exemplify the theme that, “to know is not enough.”
