Session Submission Type: Symposium
The transition to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) represents an unprecedented opportunity to transform educational practice. That most states have agreed to the CCSS creates a cross-state platform for change and enables the development, refinement and dissemination of powerful and flexible tools to facilitate the transformation. This interactive symposium focuses on the development and implementation of formative assessment tools for teachers’ classroom use supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Specifically, it examines the role of multi-method assessment and evaluation in refining Foundation strategy, tool development and rollout. After researchers briefly identify salient methodological issues and key findings from early empirical work, the audience, Foundation leaders, and researchers will explore implications for knowledge generation and use.
